Why Buy A Performance Exhaust?
Performance exhausts are designed to increase power and noise adding to the overall experience of your vehicle. This is achieved through easier “flow” of exhaust gasses and pressures exiting the engine. As a result of easier exhaust flow, the engine of your vehicle has the capacity for increased pressure resulting in an increase of power. Exhaust gases leaving your engine, provide much more capacity to produce power. To gain the most power from your engine, the best option is to complete a full exhaust upgrade (engine back or turbo back).
What Size Catback Should I Buy?
One of the most common questions we get. What size catback exhaust should I get. If you’re after the loudest sound then a 3”catback exhaust sytem is the best option. Not only will you benefit with the best sound, if you plan to work on your engine you will gain further performance gains compared to a 2.5”.
The benefits of a 2.5” system is that they’re more suited for the street and casual cruising. Not too quite and not too loud.
What Size Headers Should I Buy?
Bigger, isn’t always better in this case.
1 3/4" headers are suited for highly worked on engines and provide high flow. You will also see high performance gains and a slightly better and louder note. With both 1 ¾” and 1 7/8” headers you should hear more cracks and pops.
With 1 7/8” headers these are more suited to motors utilising force induction, for example a supercharger. There shouldn’t be much difference with sound and performance compared to 1 ¾” it mostly depends on the engines upgrades.
What Material Exhaust Should I Buy?
This is all depends on how long you’re going to keep the car. If you plan on keeping your car for five years, then Stainless Steel is the best option in comparison to other materials.
Warranty periods on Stainless Steel exhaust last for five years, were as other materials warranties are two years.
What Systems Are Direct Fit?
Majority of systems from XFORCE, Di Filippo, Manta, Msa, Ballistic are direct bolt. Below are some noted fitment issues with products:
- Headers – some components of the engine may need to removed. Please see some examples below
- Headers - VE/VF steering shaft needs to be removed to install headers
- Headers - HSV GTS GEN-F is a tight squeeze and 1 3/4” headers are recommended over 1 7/8”
- XFORCE Chrysler 300C catback – custom cat section needs to be fabricated
- XFORCE Nissan 350z/370z – may require more labour than usual
- XFORCE Statesman – may require more labour than usual
- XFORCE exhaust tips, require more time to be aligned properly
What's the Difference Between Exhaust Systems?
ENGINE/TURBO BACK
- The most comprehensive performance upgrade for your exhaust
- Generally replaces the headers, turbo manifold, cat converters, mufflers and piping all in one go
- Streamlines the entire exhaust system for optimal flow
CAT BACK
- The most common and price-conscious exhaust upgrade
- Connects to your vehicle using the stock catalytic converter, replacing the mufflers and piping that follow
- Gives a modest performance boost by streamlining the air flow as opposed to more restrictive stock tubes and mufflers
